Why Safe Parking?
According to Santa Clara County’s 2019 Census, 1 out of 4 unhoused residents in Santa Clara County are living in their vehicles. Due to city regulations and lack of safe places to park, vehicle dwellers are forced to move constantly. Safe parking programs not only provides safety but ongoing case management to assist towards permanent housing.
How did Safe Parking get started?
In 2016, our founder, Rev. Brian Leong wanted to helped mobilize faith communities, non-profits and government agencies together to combat the effects of the growing crisis of homelessness. With our community, MOVE MV has grown to do just that.
2016 – IDEA OF BAY AREA SAFE PARKING BEGINS
2018 – CHURCH PARKING LOTS OPEN FOR CLIENTS
2019 – CITY OF MOUNTAIN VIEW OPENS THREE RV LOTS
2020 – INTENSIVE HOUSING CASE MANAGEMENT BEGINS
2021 – CITY OF PALO ALTO OPENS THREE PARKING LOTS
Today, MOVE MV operates 7 parking lots, consisting of church and city owned properties. MOVE MV serves an average of 160 individuals per night with 60% being families.
